MAGA politicians are now targeting us for our journalism and editorial stances through the House Ways and Means Committee. They're using an old playbook, saying anyone challenging Trump's policies is a “foreign agent” of China. But that’s a lie. What they’re really trying to do is discredit and destroy anyone who speaks up. This is a blatant attack on free speech.
Thanks to our generous community of support, we were able to respond to a wave of unconstitutional Congressional attacks on our outlet this summer. But now, they’ve escalated. We have just received a letter from Committee Chairman Rep. Jason Smith, threatening to personally subpoena our individual journalists and editors to a deposition in Washington, DC if we don't waive our legal rights protected under the First Amendment.
We will not be intimidated. We know this is part of a wider attack on the freedom of the press and the First Amendment.
