Pentucket Field Hockey has made Play for Runway a tradition of its own — using the sport they love to make a meaningful difference for families impacted by breast cancer.
The connection began through Newburyport Field Hockey coach Shannon Haley and her mom, Pentucket’s legendary longtime coach Ruth Beaton. After watching their cousin Amy Burke face a breast cancer diagnosis — and seeing firsthand how her communities rallied around her family — they helped turn that experience into a way to support others. Amy later became one of the four inaugural members of Runway for Recovery’s Boston Marathon team.
Now, under head coach Rachel Thornton, Pentucket’s players have chosen to carry that tradition forward.
Together, Pentucket Field Hockey has already raised more than $4,500 for Runway.
This October, the team will Play for Runway for the fourth year — honoring the people in their own lives who have been impacted by breast cancer while raising funds for families navigating metastatic breast cancer and the loss of a parent.
Make a gift and help Pentucket continue showing up for another family when they need it most.
