Sponsor an Oakland student’s
first paddle on the Bay!

Sea Trek and Oakland Goes Outdoors are teaming up once again this school year to support hundreds of students from Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) getting out on the water and into the San Francisco Bay at Sea Trek’s Alameda location.
For many, this will be their first time exploring the beauty of their own home waters. And we need your help!
Remember the thrill of your first paddle, the joy of gliding across the water and the confidence that came with each stroke?
Now, imagine sharing that life-changing experience with students who may never have had the chance to get out on the water.
We're aiming to raise up to $50,000 - with costs at $100 per student that would be up to 500 students! - by the end of the 2026-2027 school year. And we need your help to make this vision a reality!

Why $100?
$100 fully funds one student’s first kayaking adventure, covering:
🚐 Transportation from school to the water
🛶 Kayaking program fees & equipment
🥗 Meals for the day
👥 Trained staff & safety support
Every $100 gift removes barriers and opens new horizons for an Oakland student!

What’s the motivation behind the On the Water Project?
Research shows that paddlesports and other outdoor activities offer children a range of benefits, including improved focus, reduced stress, better school attendance, and enhanced academic performance (California Surgeon General’s Report, 2020). Early exposure to nature also fosters lifelong environmental stewardship.
However, not all children have equal access to these experiences. Oakland Goes Outdoors addresses this gap by collaborating with program partners like Sea Trek to provide Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) students with affordable, accessible paddlesports and other outdoor opportunities. This program tackles common barriers like cost, transportation, gear, and access to skilled guides, ensuring that more young people can reap the benefits of outdoor adventure.
