Their Recovery Depends on Us.
Six German Shepherd mixed puppies arrived at the MCSPCA after what was believed to be a typical, accidental litter surrender. But within minutes, our medical team realized something was terribly wrong.
We expected a healthy litter. Instead, our medical team discovered a heartbreaking situation: half of the puppies couldn't stand, walk, or lift their hindquarters due to excruciating pain and lethargy.
As a result of extreme malnutrition before arriving, these pups developed severe osteopenia (significant bone density loss), resulting in painful fractures throughout their hips, legs, and spine. Even a small jump can break their tiny, fragile bones.
Right now, they're receiving pain medication, laser therapy, specialized nutrition, and around-the-clock veterinary care. With time and proper treatment, we are hopeful these puppies can make a full recovery.
Their care will cost an estimated $10,000-$12,000 over the next several weeks.

Right now, these puppies need foster homes to heal.
Because their bones are extremely fragile, they cannot play like normal puppies. They need foster homes willing to follow strict medical instructions for the next 6-8 weeks while they heal.
We're looking for foster families who:
- Have no pets in the home
- Have no young children
- Can keep the puppy crated except for supervised care
- Can provide gentle handling and socialization
- Can closely follow our medical team's instructions
The Monmouth County SPCA provides medical care, supplies, guidance, and support every step of the way.
