Here is the wonderful news: the work is done. The road has been rebuilt. Thanks to generous neighbors and friends, $23,260 has already been given. Now we are inviting our wider community to raise the last $27,000, to complete the funding, add clear new signage along the route, and cover the costs of this campaign.

The StarHouse was built on sacred measure: a twelve-sided temple, thirty-six feet across, ringed by twelve standing stones, and this year, thirty-six years old! Founder David Tresemer wrote of these numbers as a family woven into the temple, the stones, and the land itself. Three times twelve is thirty-six, and three times thirty-six is one hundred eight. So the call goes out: we are gathering 108 Guardians of the Road, friends who love this mountain temple and want its way open for all who are yet to arrive. As the twelve stones hold the temple, may these Guardians hold the way. Give in the measure of your means, and take your place in the circle.

The StarHouse has been serving and being served by its community in the foothills above Boulder for as long as it has stood. Every guest, teacher, musician, wedding party, ceremony participant, volunteer, and seeker who feels called here arrives by a single road. After decades of service and two recent heavy rainstorms, that road had reached a critical point. Deep ruts, exposed bedrock, and severe erosion made portions of the driveway difficult to navigate, and hard on every vehicle that made the climb.

So this summer, a skilled local crew rebuilt and restored the driveway from top to bottom: 1,650 feet of roadway reshaped and recrowned, drainage ditches cleared and improved, three steel culverts set beneath the road, a hundred tons of rock armoring the waterways, and a fresh compacted surface laid over it all. About $25 pays for one foot of the finished road.

Now imagine being this road. Driven over for decades. Thousands of tires rolling across your back. Snowplows scraping you. Summer sun baking you. Rainstorms washing away a little more of you each year, until at last you were worn down to the bedrock. And then, one summer, cared for at last: regraded, rebuilt, and made whole.

For all these years, the driveway has served as the vital link between town and temple. Now it is our turn to care for the road that has carried all of us.
