Bring Art Classes & Supplies to 500 Kids!
Universal Promise is raising funds to provide afterschool art classes and a slew of art materials for students at Sandisulwazi High School in Paterson, South Africa. After having volunteered at SHS in 2026, and after having seen the talent and the impact of her art classes on the SHS students, Catherine P. was driven to do more.
Art classes have a profound impact on children everywhere, but even more so in areas where families suffer from high unemployment, poverty, unequal healthcare access, obstacles to academic and economic freedom, and scores of other challenges that make life more difficult.
Art Brings Hope, Peace-of-Mind, Self-expression, and the Joy of Being Seen
Universal Promise has seen, over and over again, the incalculable impact of including art in our holistic approach to transforming educational opportunities. Art enhances self-esteem, self-expression, coping mechanisms, and a peaceful escape from the rigors of everyday life.
When a school values art, more children have chances to broaden their view of the world and their place in it. There is a place for traditional subjects, of course, but there is also a place for artistic freedom. This small project will allow us to show Sandisulwazi HS learners that they matter in all ways, and it will allow them to show us their talent, their individuality, and themselves.
