House of Afro Foundation

House of Afro is a Seattle-based Afro fitness and cultural arts organization that uses music, movement and community engagement to celebrate African culture while promoting physical and mental wellness. Founded by Alisa Emedi, House of Afro was created to bridge the gap between fitness and cultural connection by making African dance accessible, educational and welcoming to people of all backgrounds using stepper boards.
Our mission is to strengthen community, identity, and well being through African movement traditions, contemporary African dance styles and culturally rooted experiences. Through classes, workshops, performances, youth programming and community events, House of Afro creates spaces where participants can build confidence, improve their health, and deepen their understanding of diverse cultures found across the African continent.
Since launching in 2024, House of Afro has grown into a recognized community organization serving the greater Seattle and pierce county areas. We have partnered with companies including Lululemon, Expedia Group, Conru Art Foundation, and local community leaders to produce culturally enriching wellness experiences. Our programs have reached hundreds of participants through public classes, cultural showcases, youth engagement initiatives and community centered events, designed to reduce isolation and foster meaningful connections.
House of Afro’s work extends beyond dance instruction. We use movement as a tool for cultural preservation, storytelling, education and social connection. Our programming highlights contemporary African music and dance while creating opportunities for Black owned businesses, artists and community organizations to collaborate and thrive.
