Through the Recess Enhancement Program (REP), Asphalt Green partners with local elementary schools to transform recess into a positive experience that supports students’ physical health, social development, and success in the classroom.
During the 2025–2026 school year, REP reached over 14,000 students.
With community support, we can expand our impact and bring healthy movement and meaningful play to even more children in 2026–2027.
We are grateful for your partnership in advancing this important work.
Why It Matters
Since the mid-2000s, up to 40% of school districts nationally have reduced or eliminated recess, according to data from the group Springboard to Active Schools in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
A study by the American Academy of Pediatrics shows access to developmentally appropriate play can promote cognitive, language, and self-regulation skills, as well as social and emotional skills that build executive function in a child’s growing brain.
Asphalt Green tailors REP to each school they run by programming activities based on their students, school structure, and physical space–all with quantifiable results.
