About the Fundraiser

My name is Kelly Alvarez, and I am an avid hiker planning to complete the John Muir Trail this summer.

The J.M.T. is approximately 220 miles long and includes over 46,000 feet of elevation gain. The trail spans from Yosemite Valley to Mount Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous U.S. In 2021 I backpacked this epic trail in sections, however this year will be my first time thru-hiking it from point to point! While the average time to complete this trail is about three weeks, I am planning to "fastpack" the J.M.T. in about 10 days!

Being a mother, and I know how beautiful and powerful the love a parent can have for their child can be! I have also been a dance teacher for over 25 years, and working with children has brought me indescribable joy throughout my career. I wanted this hike to not only be for myself, but for a greater cause. I love that I am able to support the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children's Cancer during this venture.

My hope is that with each step I take I can potentially help a child, or a family member of a child, in need.
