Empower California’s Newest Students
We need support to develop the California Newcomer Toolkit, a comprehensive professional reference & implementation guide for teachers, schools, & districts to effectively educate immigrant students.
About California Newcomer Toolkit
The California Newcomer Network (CANN) is a hub for educators and partners serving recently arrived immigrant students. We provide practical resources, connect colleagues statewide, and work to develop improved systems for schools serving newcomer youth.
In California, newcomers face barriers in enrollment, English language acquisition, access to mainstream instruction, social integration, and the ability to attend school safely. Public schools lack standards and models to serve immigrant students well.
The California Newcomer Toolkit will provide coherent administrative models, instructional resources, and safe schools protocols for practical use. It will be developed with leading experts from Oakland Unified School District and Stanford.
