YOUR HELP MATTERS!

At the Mid Island Y JCC, we have always believed that every child, regardless of ability, deserves access to high-quality early childhood education. As our community grows, so does the responsibility to meet the developmental needs of our youngest learners. We are launching a preschool special education program beginning with 46 students, in July, with a clear vision to expand over time as community needs continue to rise.

With your support, we can ensure that every child, regardless of ability, receives the early intervention, care, and opportunity they deserve, right here at home.

WHY THIS MATTERS NOW

Across Long Island, especially in Nassau County and western Suffolk, there is a well-documented shortage of special education preschool seats. Families face long wait lists, delayed services, and in some cases, extremely long bus rides just to access programs. These delays have real consequences: Early childhood is the most critical window for development, and missing timely services can impact a child’s trajectory for years. This unmet need is both a challenge and an opportunity. The MIYJCC is positioned to meet this need and ensure children receive services at a time when it matters most.

WHO WE WILL SERVE

Our preschool program will serve children ages 3–5 who have been evaluated and recommended for special education services by their local CPSE. These children present with a wide range of developmental needs, and our job is to meet them where they are, with individualized instruction, therapeutic support, and evidence-based interventions. Empowering parents with knowledge, resources, and ongoing communication is central to our model.

WHY THE MIYJCC

For more than 20 years, the MIYJCC has been a leader in early childhood education and inclusive programming. Our reputation for high-quality classrooms, strong relationships with local school districts, and commitment to meeting state standards, positions us to expand naturally into a larger regional role. Starting with 46 students, we will build a foundation for long-term growth, allowing us to scale responsibly and respond to increasing demand.
