Herbal Echoes: Botanical Art from Persia

Herbal Echoes: Botanical Art from Persia is a multi-sensory art experience that explores the relationship between botanical life, cultural memory, and place. Through painting, sculpture, botanical imagery, herbarium scans, natural materials, and interactive and tactile elements, the exhibition invites visitors not only to look at plants, but to experience them through multiple senses and forms of engagement.

The project grew from the work and memory of a late friend of artist Nahal Entezam Nia, a biologist who devoted her life to documenting Iran’s endemic plants. Her scientific dedication became the starting point for an artistic exploration of the plants, landscapes, and ecological stories of Iran—transforming botanical documentation into a language of memory, emotion, and visual expression.

Rather than presenting plants simply as subjects of representation, Herbal Echoes considers them as carriers of cultural memory and witnesses to environmental change. Visitors encounter botanical forms through visual, tactile, and spatial experiences that encourage a deeper connection with the natural world and the cultural stories embedded within it.

Bringing together art, botanical knowledge, sensory experience, and storytelling, the exhibition creates a space where scientific observation and artistic interpretation meet. It is both a tribute to a remarkable friendship and an invitation to consider what is lost when plant species, ecosystems, and the knowledge associated with them disappear.

At its heart, Herbal Echoes is a meditation on memory, nature, friendship, and connection—an attempt to preserve the echoes of a botanical world while creating new ways of seeing, touching, sensing, and caring for it.
