1 in 5 children in our community are experiencing food insecurity.
At KIPP Chicago, we know that when our students’ basic needs aren’t met, it’s impossible for them to focus on learning. You can’t focus on reading, math, creating joy, or discovery when you’re hungry. Across Chicago, 1 in 5 households with children experience food insecurity, and with the disruption of SNAP benefits, this number will continue to rise.
Investing in food access is one of the most effective ways to support academic success. When basic needs are met, students and families can focus on learning.
About the Whole Child Initiative
The Whole Child Initiative (WCI) is KIPP Chicago’s ongoing effort to support the holistic success of our students. WCI also prioritizes teacher wellness, parent support, and the overall well-being of the community.
