Help us raise $25,000 to provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for children battling cancer.
This year, nearly 10,000 children will be diagnosed with cancer.
At Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, our Valerie Fund Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders treats more than 1,200 kids battling cancer annually, roughly 90% of whom come from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The care delivered by the Valerie Fund Center – the largest such center in New Jersey – is uniquely personalized and intentionally multidisciplinary, extending from expert clinical treatment by board-certified pediatric oncologists and hematologists to support services that assist all members of a patient’s family. This approach has contributed to higher remission rates and better long-term outcomes.
To further support our patients and their families, the Valerie Fund Center is joining forces with the Shining Stars Foundation, an organization committed to providing recreational and social programs for kids with cancer.
Last year, thanks to the generosity of a donor, two young people receiving treatment at Newark Beth Israel’s Valerie Fund Center participated in Shining Stars’ Aspen Winter Games – a special week-long, overnight ski and snowboard program. Every day, participants receive personalized adaptive ski and/or snowboard instruction at Buttermilk Mountain, where they learn to do things that they never thought possible. During the evenings, participants bond with one another through group activities, which include dance parties, arts and crafts, a talent show, games, snowmobiling, and teambuilding exercises. Ultimately, participants recognize what they are truly capable of, restoring their confidence and self-esteem. These children also realize they are not alone in their fight, as they connect with others who understand what they are going through.
With your help, our goal is to send four of our Valerie Fund Center patients to the Aspen Winter Games each year, starting in 2026. The annual cost is $25,000, which covers transportation, meals, lodging, 24/7 medical care, adaptive athletic gear, ski and snowboard instruction, and more.
Making this life-changing experience available to our Valerie Fund Center patients depends on the generous support of our friends. Please consider making a gift to support this once-in-a-lifetime experience for children with cancer today!
