Juno and Zorro
Juno and Zorro quickly became favorites among our staff and volunteers when they arrived at HSSW after their owner surrendered them.
These two lovable, 80-pound bulldogs were sweet, playful, and full of personality. They loved playing ball, approached every water bowl with their whole faces, and never seemed to know when it was time to stop chasing one more throw—especially Zorro. Their goofy charm was impossible to resist, but it also meant they needed adopters who understood their unique needs.
Bulldogs can be enthusiastic to a fault, and Juno and Zorro needed families who would appreciate their larger-than-life personalities while making sure they stayed happy, healthy, and safe. Finding that kind of home doesn't always happen overnight. Thanks to the time and individualized care they received at HSSW, our team was able to get to know each dog's personality and help match them with families who would love them exactly as they are.
Today, both Juno and Zorro are thriving in loving homes where they can enjoy all the playtime, belly rubs, and tennis balls they could ever want. Their story is a wonderful reminder that every animal deserves more than just a home—they deserve the right home.

A Complex Rescue
This summer the Humane Society for Southwest Washington worked alongside municipal animal control partners to respond to a complex situation involving cats and kittens from a single property. As the situation unfolded, the cats came into our care in stages.
Over the course of several weeks, nearly 100 cats were receiving care at HSSW.
Many arrived with upper respiratory infections, widespread flea infestations, hair loss, and were underweight. Just as importantly, many were fearful and unsure after everything they had experienced. Every cat received comprehensive veterinary care, including treatment for illness and parasites, vaccinations, nutritious food, and spay or neuter surgery when healthy enough. Our behavior team also evaluated each cat, providing individualized support, enrichment, and gentle socialization to help them gain confidence and prepare for a happier life with a family.
Responding to an intake of this size requires immediate action, experienced staff, and the resources to provide specialized care for every animal who walks through our doors.
